You will need to book an appointment with the Registrar’s Office to register the death.
Once the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD) has been issued by the doctor, and signed off by the Medical Examiner, it will be forwarded to the Registrar digitally. This then commences the 5 day period to register for the family or person responsible for making the funeral arrangements. The Medical Examiner will inform you that you can make your appointment to register the death.
The person that will be registering the death will need to contact the Registrar’s Office on 0344 800 8020 or via the online booking system.
You may also purchase certified copies of the entry (death certificates) at a cost of £12.50 each.
The Registrar will forward the Registrars Certificate for Burial or Cremation onto the relative bodies, the family/person registering does not have to worry about this.
